Collecting cards would not exist if not for the companies who bring them to us. Topps is one of those companies and they have been in business for a very long time. Supporting companies that do things the right way and produce high quality products is something we need to do more of. Many people don't appreciate these type of companies until they are gone. Upper Deck was a very popular baseball card manufacturer in the 1980's and 1990's however because there were a couple too many of them at the time, they don't flourish as they did in that time period. As far as I can tell, they mostly specialize in NHL cards in the year 2021. I would hate to see the same happen to Topps and although I don't see it happening anytime soon, nothing is safe forever.
Many people have memories of opening Topps Sets for their birthday and relishing in that. I can of course relate to that as a child. These memories must remain for future generations and I believe it will at the end of the day. I'm often not one to root for Goliath, but in this Goliath exists for a reason, while David is the clear subpar option if that makes sense. Other cards don't hold the value that Topps does because they often have no real collection value, people aren't going about collecting some of these no-name brands because chances are they will be out of business within a couple years. Goliath going out of business isn't something you see everyday and although it does happen, I don't see Topps going down that same road.
Topps generally pulls in 100 million plus in revenue each year, something tat should not go unnoticed. Bad products and companies don't pull 100 million dollars in revenue, they must be doing something right or another way of putting it: If doing what Topps does was easy, why wouldn't everybody do it? The answer of course is that what Topps and other companies are doing isn't easy to replicate. The nostalgia that these companies are able to foster from their customers is critical to their success. What would card collecting be without nostalgia? Nowhere near as common, given that nostalgia is one of the driving reasons for it's success.
Topps does almost everything right in packaging their products. You can buy the entire year set, just a pack of 10-15 cards, or different sets from different times in the year called Topps Now. This allows customers the greatest flexibility with to mix and match what they want. Too many companies today don't allow for customers to have what they want, instead they attempt to tell the customers what they want. Companies like Topps that listen to their customers and apply what they want to what they offer are few and far between.
In conclusion, I recommend Topps for all your card collecting needs. It's products will hold the highest value, have the most usability in trades, and overall just provide the best card for you. I know it has met all those needs for me.
